Although a bit disappointed at first, I ended up enjoying this kit very much. I learned a lot about electricity and magnetism long before I took it in school. It was pretty cool.
Here is an excerpt from the manual:
You are about to explore the fascinating science of electricity, build numerous functioning electrical devices; perform many interesting experiments with magnetism; delve into the exciting field of telecommunications; and much, much more!... The complete world of electricity will be unfolded to you: from the basic elements to the more advanced theories!... The mystery of magnetic forces will be revealed to you, and you will construct a ship's compass and make your own magnet! You will build a real electroscope to measure the force of static electricity, and also construct an ammeter and galvanometer. You learn how to make a buzzer, an electric bell and a burglar alarm system... You will even be able to amaze your friends... assemble these devices to construct a telephone system that can be used between rooms!... and the culmination of your electrical experiments and constructions, will be the assembling of a powerful and complex tripolar electric motor!
Was I able to "amaze my friends"? Well... not really. Maybe my siblings. I don't think I would have shown anyone at school what I made. Would have been afraid of losing parts or having pieces broken. As it was, I was missing a few parts in the original kit I received. There were a few things I couldn't build because of that. You could, however order replacement parts (see form below). I remember trying to figure out which was closer - Montreal or New York, Montreal was closure to where I lived. In the end I didn't order any parts.
Inside the package is something that I originally thought was a warranty card. It is however an invitation for a free membership in the Logix Science Club. I never sent this in as a kid. Most likely I lost the card or forgot about it by the time I finished the building all the projects. Or I might have not actually built all the projects and did not feel justified in sending it in. I don't recall.
