I had checked and double checked the circuit and components and this is the only thing that seemed suspect was number of coupling turns on the gimmick capacitor between the anode of V1 to the crystal. At first I only had a few turns (3 or 4). The wire I used was old and I didn't trust it so I replaced it with solid cloth covered. I also increased the number of turns to 15 turns based on advise I read somewhere.
That did not work. So, I thought I would remove a few turns, and that seemed to have done the trick.
Before I either had too much or too little capacitance, and the 6V6 didn't go into oscillation. However, now it seems ok. Now all I have to do is brush up on my CW.
