Finally the work crew arrived. It was starting to smell pretty rank. Wet carpet gone. Walls opened up. Dryers and blowers installed.

"Expect disaster every seven years" - Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss This morning I have never seen so much rain in such a short time! All the ditches were full and the stuff was still coming down in buckets. On my way to work went through a large puddle water on the highway which was much deeper than I first thought. It was in a low point under an overpass. I guess it must have been a foot deep. The whole car was covered with water as the car plowed through it. I could not see a thing as my windshield was covered in about a half inch of muddy water. The friction from it slowed me down from a 100 kph to 30 in mere seconds. That was scary. Fortunately I didn't spin out and no one was close on my heels, so I avoided an accident.
However... A few hours later I got a call from my son saying the basement was flooded. Sure enough when I got home it had about 2.5 inches of water on the floor. Sump pump switched decided to fail. When I got home I bypassed the switch to get rid of the water. However, the damage has been done. We had a similar flood back in 2008. Not quite seven years ago, but close enough. Picked up three TRS-80 Floppy Drives and a TRS-80 300 baud acoustic modem at a local flea-market today. Eventually I will get back to restoring my TRS-80 Model 1, and these things will come in handy,
The vacuum wiper for my 1930 Model A never worked properly. A few years ago, I took it apart and lubricated it, however it only marginally improved its performance. A picked up a box full of old wiper motors from a friend of mine. After ripping a few apart, I identified one that seemed to be in good enough condition to repair. After cleaning the parts and lubricating them with some Lucas oil, I managed to get one that works quite well. Now I will be prepared for a trip to Orillia on Sunday as the weather prediction is for heavy showers.
Started work on the power supply case. Picked up a nifty looking case at A1 Electronics in Mississauga. Since it was missing the sides, I got it for $5.00! I will make up my own custom sides out of sheet metal and give them a coat of surf green for that 1970's look!
Finished drafting up all the Mod8/80 boards in Eagle so they could be sent off to be made up. It was a lot of work. |
