Got some more European tubes (for my Kerkhof 30-line Baird Compatible television project). There are a few more I need, but I have enough for the CRT receiver unit itself. The ones I received today are two 4690's (Thyratrons), AF2 (pentode), E443H (pentode) and an E499 (triode).

Today I got a hold of a vintage Philips DN 7-2. CRT. I am hoping to build a Kerkhof 30-line Baird compatible television with it. Also some AB2 tubes arrived as well. Too bad the spray shield is in poor shape.
The
Original "Baird" Televisor (30 lines) Complete construction box containing disc, lens w/holder, AC-DC synchronous motor, neon lamp etc. for 49.50 guilders. - Spare discs and neon lamps always available. I came across this interesting site on a the "De Kerkhof TV Ontvanger", or the Kerkhof TV Receiver. In 1937, F. Kerkhof (PA0KT), wrote a book called "Bouw Zelf Uw Televisie Ontvang-Installatie" ("Build Yourself your own Television Receiver Installation"). Rather than using a mechanical disc like early television sets, this utilizes a small CRT like those used in early oscillographs (oscilloscopes). The CRT used in this case is the Philips D G 7-1. This CRT can still be found on eBay for a reasonable price. Also other successor CRTs can be used with some slight modifications as the same basic CRT has been around for decades. The author of the page linked above used a DG7-6 to build his version of the television from the book. If I can convert the text in the book to English (using Google translate or something like that), I may attempt to build one for myself. Below is a YouTube video of the Kerkhof 30-line Baird Compatible television in operation. |
