Rather than using a mechanical disc like early television sets, this utilizes a small CRT like those used in early oscillographs (oscilloscopes). The CRT used in this case is the Philips D G 7-1. This CRT can still be found on eBay for a reasonable price. Also other successor CRTs can be used with some slight modifications as the same basic CRT has been around for decades. The author of the page linked above used a DG7-6 to build his version of the television from the book.
If I can convert the text in the book to English (using Google translate or something like that), I may attempt to build one for myself.
