Some interesting things I noted these '49 tubes. At first I thought I might have messed up on the wiring because the tube filaments didn't appear to light up. After taking voltage readings, I thought maybe the tubes were bad. I put them on the tube tester and they tested OK. Yet the filaments did not appear to glow. I had to darken the room just to see a hint of glowing. Even then, I am not sure I am imagining it. Apparently these '49 tubes do not glow very brightly at all when they are on.
I also chose to build it so that I could use the same plug in coils I made for my Morgan 1 tube Regenerative Radio. At first I was only able to pick up a local station (CKDO - 1580 kHz), but nothing else. The set just would not go into regeneration. I ended up swapping the tickler coil terminals and that fixed it. Now it works quite nicely.
